چکیده

In the Directed Feedback Vertex Set (DFVS) problem, we are given a digraph D on n vertices and a positive integer k and the objective is to check whether there exists a set of vertices S of size at most k such that F = D−S is a directed acyclic digraph. In a recent paper, Mnich and van Leeuwen [STACS 2016 ] considered the kernelization complexity of DFVS with an additional restriction on F , namely that F must be an out-forest (Out-Forest Vertex Deletion Set), an out-tree (Out-Tree Vertex Deletion Set), or a (directed) pumpkin (Pumpkin Vertex Deletion Set). Their objective was to shed some light on the kernelization complexity of the DFVS problem, a well known open problem in the area of Parameterized Complexity. In this article, we improve the kernel sizes of Out-Forest Vertex Deletion Set from O(k3) to O(k2) and of Pumpkin Vertex Deletion Set from O(k18) to O(k3). We also prove that the former kernel size is tight under certain complexity theoretic assumptions. 1998 ACM Subject Classification G.2.2 Graph Theory, F.2 Analysis of Algorithms and Problem Complexity

Polynomial Kernels for Deletion to Classes of Acyclic Digraphs

We consider the problem to find a set X of vertices (or arcs) with |X| ≤ k in a given digraph G such that D = G − X is an acyclic digraph. In its generality, this is Directed Feedback Vertex Set or Directed Feedback Arc Set respectively. The existence of a polynomial kernel for these problems is a notorious open problem in the field of kernelization, and little progress has been made. In this p...

THE RELATION BETWEEN TOPOLOGICAL ORDERING AND ADJACENCY MATRIX IN DIGRAPHS

In this paper the properties of node-node adjacency matrix in acyclic digraphs are considered. It is shown that topological ordering and node-node adjacency matrix are closely related. In fact, first the one to one correspondence between upper triangularity of node-node adjacency matrix and existence of directed cycles in digraphs is proved and then with this correspondence other properties of ...

Tabulation of Noncrossing Acyclic Digraphs

I present an algorithm that, given a number $n \geq 1$, computes a compact representation of the set of all noncrossing acyclic digraphs with $n$ nodes. This compact representation can be used as the basis for a wide range of dynamic programming algorithms on these graphs. As an illustration, along with this note I am releasing the implementation of an algorithm for counting the number of noncr...

More on Counting Acyclic Digraphs

In this note we derive enumerative formulas for several types of labelled acyclic directed graphs by slight modifications of the familiar recursive formula for simple acyclic digraphs. These considerations are motivated by, and based upon, recent combinatorial results in geometric topology obtained by S.Choi who established exact correspondences between acyclic digraphs and so-called small cove...

Algorithmic Properties of Sparse Digraphs

The notions of bounded expansion [49] and nowhere denseness [51], introduced by Nešetřil and Ossona de Mendez as structural measures for undirected graphs, have been applied very successfully in algorithmic graph theory. We study the corresponding notions of directed bounded expansion and nowhere crownfulness on directed graphs, as introduced by Kreutzer and Tazari in [41]. These classes are ve...
